Hey, Langley.
Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, so the trick-or-treat crowd gets a full weekend to work with. Sunday is the first of November, and for once nobody has to find the oven clock's setting button.
ONE LAST LOOK AT THE HAUNTED MAP

The haunted map now has 82 houses on it, and Walnut Grove has the most pins of any neighbourhood, with 22. One that caught our eye is a whole Willoughby street that goes big every year; this time the theme is Vikings, and the lights are out from dusk until about 8:30. The map comes down on November 1, so plan your route now and give the best ones a thumbs-up.
Doing the rounds on Saturday? Our Halloween night guide has sunset, fireworks rules for the City and the Township, and what to do with the pumpkins afterward.

ONE THING EXPLAINED

The clocks aren't going back on November 1. BC stays on Pacific time all year now, so Sunday is just Sunday. The page covers what it means for dark winter mornings and the school run, and suggests picking a date of your own for smoke-alarm batteries, since the clock change won't be the reminder anymore.
AROUND THE SITE

Bears: seven jobs before the bears den. The carts, the bird feeder, the windfall apples, and when to call and when to leave it alone.
Directory: Community groups and service clubs. A starting map if you've been meaning to volunteer, join a choir or find something for the kids.
Rants: Closed again, and where is the detour sign? One neighbour asks for a single map of road closures and signs that show up before the last turn-off.
Out & About: Fort Langley National Historic Site in the off-season. Same buildings, far fewer people, plus a parking trick worth knowing.
News & guides: 12 rainy-day outings that actually work in November. Hours, prices and booking rules checked against each operator.
SHOP LOCAL

Bridge Creative Studio. New in Walnut Grove, steps from Service Canada, and the place to walk in for a passport photo done while you wait. They also do family portraits and signs and print for other local businesses. Locally owned businesses can ask to be listed free at heylangley.ca/shop-local/.
HAVE YOUR SAY

The candy poll is closed, and fun-size won with 72 of 119 votes. Another 37 of you are going full-size, which the neighbourhood thanks you for. Next up is Langley's Favourite, and the first question is breakfast: where do you go? It opens tomorrow morning and runs until November 13 at heylangley.ca/favourites/.
